At Village Vets Hydrotherapy, our fully qualified and professional hydrotherapists provide a range of rehabilitation and fitness aspects by working closely with your pet to ensure we get the best out of them, improving their overall fitness levels and recovery period whilst ensuring they are at ease at all times. Whether they’re coming for problems which include chronic conditions, post-operation recovery, pre-operation weight loss, general fitness, to build confidence or gain mental stimulation – Village Vets Hydrotherapy caters for all.
Our hydrotherapy department works alongside veterinary treatment to help improve healing and rehabilitation following on from surgery and will increase the chances of returning to full fitness. Some of the many benefits this therapy provide are: relief from pain, swelling & stiffness, muscle strengthening and maintenance, the alleviation of muscle spasm, increased range of motion in joints, improved circulation, cardiovascular fitness (heart & lungs), increased tissue healing, increased speed of recovery, gait modification, increased proprioception.
Hydrotherapy is a non-weight bearing, zero-low impact exercise, meaning all dogs can do it no matter their age, breed, size or condition. Therefore, improving muscle tone and encouraging tissue repair without resulting in undue stress on damaged tissues.
Here at Village Vet Meadowbank Hydrotherapy, we provide a 5-star standard treatment in accordance with your vet’s diagnosis and referral by following the ABC standards of hydrotherapy as regulated by CHA (Canine Hydrotherapy Association). This includes all dogs being given a thorough one-hour-long initial assessment.
We offer a full range of swimming tariffs to ensure we cater for all individual needs. We have five main tariffs which are explained below:
- Rehabilitation – This tariff includes for pre or post-surgical injuries such as cruciate ligaments, fractures and forms of dysplasia. We complete full measurements which include: all four limbs, chest, abdomen and weight to monitor muscle growth and usually require two hydrotherapists to offer full support to our recovering dogs.
- Maintenance – This tariff applies to weight loss issues and degenerative conditions that cannot be cured but can be well managed, such as arthritis and ataxia. We take a smaller set of measurements which include the abdomen, chest and weight, focussing on key areas and only requires one hydrotherapist.
- Fitness – This tariff applies to a dog of any breed or age that has no pre or present medical conditions. This tariff does not require an initial assessment (referral still needed from vet). This applies to patients one year old and above.
- Puppy – The same as the fitness tariff, the only difference being that they must be under 12 months of age to qualify for this tariff.
- Charity/temporary foster home (pre-adoption) – To ensure all pets get the best chance in life, we offer this heavily discounted tariff for any pet within charity or temporary foster homes that have current medical conditions. Are aim in this tariff is to ensure pets are fighting fit, ready for their new homes and lives with their adopted family. (Please note, evidence is needed to prove patient is either in charity/foster home residence).
Please note, hydrotherapy sessions cannot proceed without a signed referral form from your pet’s vet prior to their first appointment. This applies to all reasons for hydrotherapy. You can download our referral form from the link on our main screen.
